How To Use

  • Take Letrozole by mouth once a day, with or without meal, or as prescribed by your doctor.
  • The dose is determined by your symptoms and reaction to treatment.

Primary Uses

Indications

  • Letrozole is used to reduce levels of estrogen in postmenopausal women, which may inhibit the progression of some specific types of breast cancers that require estrogen to grow.
  • Letrozole is a medicine that is used to treat postmenopausal women with breast cancer. It is frequently prescribed to women who've been using tamoxifen for at least 5 years.

Side Effects

The side effects of this medicine are musculoskeletal pain, headache, fatigue, GI upset, dyspnea (shortness of breath), viral infections, hot flushes, abdominal pain, joint and muscle pain, depression, dizziness, palpitations, high blood pressure, vaginal bleeding, weight changes, sweating, osteoporosis, increased cholesterol levels, peripheral edema, dry skin, rash and alopecia (bald spots).

Pregnancy

Letrozole should not be taken when pregnant. It has the potential to affect an unborn child.

Lactation

It is uncertain if Letrozole goes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not suggested while using this medicine, and for a minimum of 3 weeks after finishing therapy due to the potential harm to the infant. Lactating females should consult their doctors before using Letrozole.

Driving

Letrozole can make you feel dizzy or sleepy, and it may occasionally cause your eyesight to blur. Avoid driving vehicles or doing anything else that requires attentiveness or clear sight until you are sure you can safely do it.

Liver

Patients having liver diseases should consult their doctors before taking Letrozole.

Kidney

Patients having Kidney diseases should consult their doctors before taking Letrozole.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption should be limited while taking Letrozole.

Before using Letrozole, consult your doctor if you are hypersensitive to it. Inactive chemicals in this medicine may trigger hypersensitive reactions or other complications. Inform your doctor about your past medical history, particularly if you have: high blood cholesterol, bone disorders (such as osteoporosis, osteopenia), stroke or blood thrombus, cardiovascular disease (such as heart failure, heart attack) hypertension, kidney disorders, or liver problems. Inform your doctor or dentist about all of the medicines you use before undergoing surgery. Letrozole is mostly used in women following menopause. If you've recently experienced menopause, consult a doctor about the importance of using effective contraceptive while taking Letrozole and for the first three weeks after quitting this medicine.
